Dear Families,
What a beautiful end to our week!  The sun was shining, the birds chirping, and the anticipation of summer bringing a smile to everyone’s faces J I hope you’re finding wonderful ways to enjoy this PD day boys and girls.  Make time to be outside and bask in the amazing surroundings we have in our area.  We are fortunate to live where we do!  I’m very much looking forward to the weekend to be outside with my friends hiking, biking, and attending a musical festival.  YAHOO!

Sharing Poetry with Mrs. Johnson:
This week, students completed their Poetry Portfolio!  Your child has now written several wonderful poems that he or she will share with you at our Poetry Cafe which will take place on June 22nd at 11:45-1:00 p.m.  They are ever so excited for this event and we are currently busily preparing for the big day by having rehearsals in class and in the library with Mrs. Johnson.

If your child has brought home some extra 'lines,' please ensure they practice them daily as I would like them to be as fluent and clear as possible so their 'Voice' and 'Message' is heard. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in this endeavour.  See you all on the 22nd!

Thank you to Mrs. Johnson for listening to and celebrating some of the poems children have written. She's shared with me just how amazing she felt the poems are.  I also want to extend a thank you to her for giving us the library space for our rehearsals.  Here at Nottawa we continually work as a team to meet the interests and needs of our students!  I've said it many times, but I'll say it again, I love teaching here because of the stellar staff, students, and families!

King's Wharf Theatre:
Students in grades 1-4 travelled to Penetang yesterday to see a musical inspired by our Canadian hero -Terry Fox!  What a beautiful, heart-soaring, moving performance this was.  It was emotionally charged with a powerful reminder to always have Hope and to live each day to the fullest.  Health is wealth and we must honour our minds and bodies everyday.  Terry Fox's legacy lives on and it is great to see that so many children look up to him.

Jump Rope for Heart:
Thank you to all the families who have been working hard to raise awareness and funds for this much needed cause.  We had an excellent presentation at our school at last month's assembly, and I am grateful that each year schools across Simcoe County participate in this event.

We will be having our Jump Rope for Heart activities on Monday 2:00-3:00 pm.  Please ensure your child has proper attire, footwear, sunscreen, and lots of water.  I'll be sure to snap a few pics for you to see in next week's post, stay tuned!  Thank you to Mrs. Shaw and her Spirit Squad for organizing this for us!  It's going to be FUN, fun, FUN!

2017 Summer Reading Lists for Kids 12 and Under:
With summer approaching, I thought I'd share a wonderful website to continue encouraging your child to read, read, read over the summer months.  It's an easy to use and engaging website for children to enjoy.  Below is a link to instantly access over 25,000 of the best books and videos for kids!!  Check it out!

Track & Field Meet:
On Tuesday, we will have Tate and Hunter represent our class family at this year's area track and field meet at SCI.  Good luck boys as you participate in long jump (Tate) and the relay team (Hunter).  I am so proud of your achievement!!  We look forward to hearing all about your experience upon your return Wednesday.

Fun Fair:
Thank you to our amazing Parent Council for organizing this year's fun fair!!  What a superb turn out we had with so many great stations for everyone to enjoy.  I loved the Top Shot Hockey!  We certainly have some keen and stellar hockey players here at Nottawa.  It was impressive to see the skills demonstrated!  Way to go!  Also, as always, I had an absolute blast connecting with my students' families who continuously bring their love and support to our school.  Thank you, thank you!

Reminder:
Please remember to send in a photograph of Dad next week so we can finalize our Father's Day card. Students are really enjoying making this gift for them!
